Skills and Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate economic, financial, demographic, and related time series data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency
  • Demonstrated ability to work with structured datasets, database platforms, spreadsheets, scripting tools, and query languages to support data management, quality control, and process improvement
  • Clear and effective communicator with the ability to document methodology, metadata, assumptions, and data processes for internal users and external client-facing applications
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with strong attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively across global teams
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and contribute to solutions in situations where data availability, methodology, or client requirements may be complex or uncertain
  • Demonstrated proficiency in artificial intelligence concepts, with hands-on interest or experience using AI tools to streamline workflows, improve data quality checks, enhance documentation, and support operational efficiency
  • Commitment to responsible and ethical use of AI, including awareness of AI-related risks, data governance considerations, and the importance of human oversight in economic data workflows

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, statistics, mathematics, data analytics, data science, computer science, business intelligence, or a related field
  • Advanced coursework or practical experience in economics, econometrics, statistical analysis, programming, database management, or data visualization is preferred
  • Relevant professional experience in economic data, financial data, data operations, research support, or analytical database management is preferred
  • Knowledge of one or more foreign languages is desirable, particularly where it supports research, interpretation, or quality control of international data sources

Responsibilities

The Associate Economist 2 will support the Economics Center of Excellence by maintaining, enhancing, and documenting economic and demographic time series datasets used in Moody’s Analytics products and research workflows. The role combines economic data expertise, analytical thinking, process improvement, and technology-enabled data operations

  • Maintain and enhance historical, estimated, analytical, and value-added economic datasets used in client-facing products and internal research workflows
  • Administer economic time series databases to support accuracy, integrity, timeliness, completeness, and usability of managed datasets
  • Research the availability, structure, methodology, and reliability of economic, financial, demographic, and related data from public and licensed sources
  • Review, validate, and reconcile incoming data using analytical judgment, documented procedures, and appropriate quality control techniques
  • Develop, improve, and maintain repeatable data processes that increase productivity, reduce operational risk, and improve output quality
  • Create and maintain metadata, methodology notes, source documentation, and dataset descriptions that help clients and colleagues understand data content, coverage, transformations, and appropriate use
  • Support implementation of automation and AI-enabled solutions that improve data ingestion, validation, monitoring, documentation, and workflow efficiency
  • Collaborate with economists, data engineers, operations colleagues, technology partners, and other stakeholders to resolve data issues and support new or enhanced datasets
  • Serve as a subject matter contributor for assigned datasets by helping answer questions related to data availability, methodology, interpretation, and operational handling
  • Contribute to special projects, including data coverage expansions, source transitions, process migrations, quality initiatives, and modernization of existing data workflows
  • Apply independent judgment and critical thinking to identify data anomalies, recommend solutions, and escalate issues when appropriate
  • Support junior colleagues through knowledge sharing, documentation, peer review, and informal training where appropriate

The Economics Center of Excellence at Moody’s Analytics helps professionals worldwide navigate an evolving marketplace with confidence by transforming economic data, research, and analytics into insight that supports better decision-making amid uncertainty

This role sits within the Data Services group, which maintains and expands historical and estimated time series databases and drives process improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, timeliness, and output quality

Our team works at the intersection of economics, data operations, technology, and client impact. We support Moody’s by:

  • Maintaining high-quality economic and demographic datasets that are used in analytical products, forecasting workflows, research, and client-facing applications
  • Improving data operations through automation, workflow modernization, quality controls, and scalable documentation practices
  • Exploring responsible use of AI to enhance data processing, metadata creation, quality review, anomaly detection, and operational efficiency
