Skills and Competencies

  • Demonstrated proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript - the foundation of interactive data visualization and web-based creative production
  • Portfolio that includes data visualization and design-driven examples - interactive, static, or both, reflecting strong visual thinking and a clear editorial point of view
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Illustrator and Photoshop, with an understanding of how design tools connect to web production workflows
  • Some experience with open-source data visualization libraries such as D3, Three.js, or comparable tools, and/or data analysis languages such as Python, R, or Node.js
  • Strong writing skills and a sharp editorial instinct, with the ability to shape clear narratives around complex data and global themes
  • Exceptional attention to detail, high degree of self-motivation, and the ability to manage work independently while remaining deeply collaborative
  • Strong interpersonal skills and genuine eagerness to learn through shadowing, feedback, and hands-on iteration
  • Comfortable working in a Mac OS environment
  • Familiarity with Svelte or other JavaScript frameworks and templating systems preferred
  • Familiarity with geospatial tools such as QGIS, Mapbox, or similar platforms preferred
  • An eye for print and editorial design, including grid systems, typographic hierarchy, and layout composition preferred
  • Basic understanding of artificial intelligence concepts, with curiosity and enthusiasm for learning how AI tools can be used to improve processes and drive efficiency. Interest in exploring AI systems and a willingness to develop awareness of responsible AI practices, including risk management and ethical use

Education

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in data visualization, journalism, graphic design, computer science, information design, or a closely related field
  • Graduation date of May 2028 – June 2029
  • Ability to work during program dates: June 7th - August 13th 2027

Responsibilities

A dual-track internship spanning data visualization and brand design, with direct contribution to the full creative pipeline from raw data to published story.

  • Explore and interrogate real-world datasets to extract meaning, identify visual opportunities, and shape editorial narratives around complex global themes
  • Conceptualize and build interactive and static charting components using JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and data visualization libraries, contributing to stories in the active production queue
  • Support digital design projects across the brand portfolio, including editorial layouts, marketing materials, campaign assets, and digital templates, applying principles of typography, hierarchy, and visual storytelling
  • Work with geospatial data and mapping tools to bring geographic context and dimension to data-driven stories
  • Collaborate with designers, developers, data analysts, researchers, and subject-matter experts — attending partner meetings, contributing perspective, and learning how a high-functioning creative team operates
  • Develop and sharpen technical and professional skills including coding, data analysis, AI-assisted workflows, presentation, and cross-functional communication under the mentorship of an experienced creative team

We sit at the intersection of editorial strategy, data visualization, and design — transforming complex, high-stakes information into compelling stories and immersive digital experiences that move markets and inform decisions. Our work spans interactive data narratives, motion graphics, editorial illustration, and print and web design, all anchored by a commitment to visual clarity, narrative precision, and brand excellence. Moody's 10-week summer internship program is a premier opportunity for students to immerse themselves in a hands-on learning experience, guided by Moody's commitment to integrity, excellence, and insight. The program takes place each summer from June – August and positions are available for undergraduate and select graduate students. Internships are full-time, offering a comprehensive view of Moody's business and culture, and a chance to build professional and technical skills. Programmatic elements include networking, mentorship, leadership speaker series and volunteering events.  Interns complete project work determined by their team that have real impact, fostering a sense of accomplishment and professional growth. Throughout the internship, participants receive mentorship from Moody's professionals, gaining insights into diverse career paths and cultivate a comprehensive understanding of the company. Networking events and workshops further enrich the experience, providing a platform for professional development and collaboration. As a Moody's intern, you will gain real-world experience, turn inputs into actions, and be integral part of the team.


For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring hourly wage for this position is $35/hr.
