Skills and Competencies
- Typically 10+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, including experience leading large-scale technical initiatives
- Deep expertise in software engineering principles, distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and scalable application design
- Strong proficiency in C++ and Python; additionally, experience with GPU-accelerated computing preferred
- Understanding of artificial intelligence technologies, including the ability to identify opportunities for responsible AI adoption while considering governance, risk management, and ethical use practices; hands-on experience with agentic coding tools preferred
- Extensive experience designing and building enterprise-grade applications using microservices and API-driven architectures
- Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and observability tools
- Ability to lead technical design discussions, influence engineering standards, and mentor software engineers across multiple teams
- Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and decision-making capabilities in complex technical environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field required
- Advanced degree preferred
Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of highly scalable, secure, and resilient software solutions supporting insurance products and platforms
- Define and promote engineering best practices, coding standards, architectural principles, and software development methodologies across the team
- Collaborate closely with actuaries, product managers, architects, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Review and optimize application performance, reliability, security, and maintainability through proactive engineering practices
- Lead technical design reviews and provide guidance on complex system integration, scalability, and modernization initiatives
- Mentor and coach engineers and actuaries through code reviews, technical leadership, knowledge sharing, and career development support
- Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions leveraging cloud technologies, advanced analytics, and emerging technologies
- Drive automation, operational excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance software development and deployment processes
- Evaluate new technologies, frameworks, and tools to strengthen the organization's technical capabilities and support business growth
About the Team
For Canada-based roles only: The anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $134,500.00- $195,100.00, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation.
