Skills and Competencies

  • Several years of experience in an analytical, research, or risk management role; financial markets experience preferred, though strong analytical backgrounds from other industries will be considered
  • Strong understanding of Japanese financial institutions, including their regulatory environment, Sustainable Finance  considerations, and emerging credit topics such as the digital economy and private credit
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex analytical and strategic issues clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in Japanese and English is required.
  • Highly organized and efficient, with the ability to multi-task, meet tight deadlines, work collaboratively, and support the coaching and development of Ratings Associates.
  • Basic understanding of artificial intelligence concepts, with curiosity and enthusiasm to apply AI tools to improve processes and drive efficiency.

Education

  • Graduate / second-level degree (e.g. MBA, Master's) required or equivalent strong academic background

Responsibilities

  • Report to the Senior Vice President – Ratings for Moody’s Financial Institutions Ratings, based in Tokyo
  • Manage a portfolio of Japanese financial institutions, including banks, securities firms, and finance companies
  • Oversee all aspects of the ratings process, including monitoring company, industry, and regulatory developments; executing timely ratings actions; and producing high-quality, impactful research
  • Communicate credit views clearly and effectively to internal and external stakeholders
  • Engage with rated issuers, intermediaries, and investors; represent Moody’s at internal and external conferences; and interact with investors and themedia to enhance Moody’s market relevance
  • Contribute to the continuous enhancement of processes that strengthen Moody’s ratings franchise and relevance
  • Deliver timely, insightful, and relevant credit commentary with strong written and verbal presentation skills

The Financial Institutions Group is responsible for delivering high‑quality credit ratings and research across the financial sector, including banks, non‑bank financial institutions, insurers, securities firms, funds, and asset managers. The team is focused on enhancing market transparency, supporting informed investor decision‑making, and strengthening our position as a trusted source of credit insight.

By joining the team, you will work on high‑impact areas such as fund finance and the digital economy, while contributing to the adoption of AI‑enabled tools that enhance analytical rigor and drive efficiency across our ratings operations.
