Skills and Competencies
- 10+ years of experience in risk management, technology governance, or model validation, preferably within financial services or regulated industries
- Proven expertise in AI risk assessment methodologies, model validation, and governance frameworks, including alignment with NIST AI Risk Management Framework, ISO 42001, and emerging regulatory standards
- Strong understanding of AI and third-party risk as they relate to AI systems, including foundational models, Generative AI applications, and Agentic workflows
- Experience with governance, risk, and compliance platforms such as IBM Open Pages, ServiceNow, or OneTrust
- Demonstrated ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders across risk, legal, compliance, audit, and technology functions with clarity and credibility
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including PowerPoint, Teams, Planner, and Copilot
- Strong project governance skills with the ability to develop and maintain project plans, timelines, and executive-level status reporting
- Deep expertise in artificial intelligence, with a track record of implementing advanced AI solutions to drive strategic transformation and operational efficiency. Strong experience using AI tools to lead innovation initiatives. Demonstrated leadership in managing AI-related risks, ensuring ethical governance, and fostering a culture of responsible AI adoption across the organization
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Information Systems, or a related field required
- AI certifications or advanced credentials in technology risk, governance, or model validation preferred
Responsibilities
The VP, Risk Management drives AI governance and risk oversight at Moody's, serving as an independent second line of defense across the full AI lifecycle.
- Review and validate AI risk assessments conducted by first-line teams for foundational models, Generative AI applications, and Agentic workflows, evaluating methodologies for effectiveness and compliance with internal standards
- Lead and perform deep-dive risk assessments for AI systems, providing independent challenge and oversight of AI risk mitigation strategies and control effectiveness as second line of defense
- Maintain AI governance frameworks aligned with NIST AI Risk Management Framework, ISO 42001, and emerging regulatory standards including the EU AI Act
- Monitor and report Key Risk Indicators and metrics for AI governance maturity and compliance, partnering with AI Working Groups and Governance Committees to classify, track, and monitor AI implementations and associated risks
- Maintain visibility into the AI enablement strategic roadmap, identify gaps or misalignments, and proactively recommend course corrections to ensure alignment with long-term organizational goals
- Develop and maintain project plans, timelines, and status reports for AI governance and risk management initiatives, providing transparent reporting to leadership and stakeholders
- Collaborate with internal audit, operational risk, compliance, and technology teams to ensure consistency and alignment across risk frameworks
- Support AI policy, governance standards change management, and training efforts to promote responsible AI development and usage across the enterprise
About the Team
Our Technology Risk Management team sits within Moody's Corporate Risk and Resilience function and is responsible for providing independent AI governance and risk oversight across the enterprise. We work to operationalize AI risk frameworks, embed sound risk management practices throughout the AI lifecycle, and deliver credible challenge across business units, technology, compliance, and legal functions. By joining our team, you will help shape how AI is adopted responsibly at Moody's — influencing governance for Generative AI, Agentic workflows, and breakthrough automation technologies — while gaining broad visibility across senior leadership and key control functions at a globally recognized institution.
For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $163,300.00 - $236,800.00, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation. Moody’s also offers a competitive benefits package, including not but limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities, life, disability, and accident insurance, a discounted employee stock purchase plan, and tuition reimbursement.
