Skills and Competencies

  • Minimum of two years of experience in sanctions screening, watchlist alert investigation, due diligence, regulatory compliance, government service, or related fields
  • Familiarity with U.S., UK, EU, and other international sanctions regimes
  • Experience reviewing sanctions alerts generated by commercial screening platforms and conducting due diligence reviews
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills with the ability to assess sanctions-related risk
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in written and spoken Chinese is preferred to review Chinese-language documents
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work product
  • Basic understanding of artificial intelligence concepts, with curiosity and enthusiasm for learning how AI tools can be used to improve processes and drive efficiency. Interest in exploring AI systems and a willingness to develop awareness of responsible AI practices, including risk management and ethical use

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience within a multinational financial services, legal, consulting, technology, or government environment is preferred

Responsibilities
Moody's is seeking an Economic Sanctions Analyst to join its global Economic Sanctions Team. The Economic Sanctions Analyst will play a critical role in supporting Moody's compliance with applicable economic sanctions laws, regulations, and internal policies. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing sanctions screening alerts, conducting due diligence on customers, vendors, and other third parties, documenting findings, and escalating potential sanctions concerns to leadership when appropriate.

Sanctions Screening and Alert Resolution

  • Review and investigate watchlist screening alerts involving customers, vendors, and other third parties
  • Analyze potential sanctions matches and determine whether alerts represent false positives or potential true matches
  • Escalate sanctions-related concerns to management and other appropriate stakeholders as necessary
  • Assist in maintaining effective sanctions screening and monitoring processes

Due Diligence and Research

  • Conduct sanctions-related due diligence on customers, vendors, and other business counterparties
  • Perform ownership and control analysis, corporate structure reviews, and adverse media research
  • Evaluate potential links to sanctioned persons, sanctioned jurisdictions, or other sanctions-related risk factors
  • Analyze complex ownership structures and identify potential sanctions exposure

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain records to satisfy legal, regulatory, and internal record-retention requirements
  • Contribute to sanctions-related reporting and metrics, as required

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Communicate effectively with business teams and other stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance regarding sanctions screening outcomes and due diligence findings
  • Participate in sanctions-related projects, process improvements, and other team initiatives

Moody's global Economic Sanctions Team sits within the Legal function and is responsible for ensuring the company's compliance with applicable economic sanctions laws, regulations, and internal policies across all lines of business. The team partners closely with business stakeholders, legal colleagues, and compliance professionals around the world to identify, assess, and mitigate sanctions-related risk.
