Skills and Competencies

  • Deep hands-on with 7-12 years of experience designing and operating enterprise Kubernetes platforms on Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service including networking ingress security controls and multi-tenancy
  • Strong Amazon Web Services background including serverless services such as AWS Lambda Amazon API Gateway Amazon EventBridge and AWS Step Functions as well as core services including Identity and Access Management Virtual Private Cloud Amazon Simple Storage Service Amazon Relational Database Service Amazon DynamoDB and Amazon CloudWatch
  • Advanced Infrastructure as Code skills using Terraform including module design remote state management environment promotion and continuous integration and continuous delivery integration
  • Strong GitOps delivery experience using Argo CD for declarative deployments and multi-environment release management
  • Expert knowledge of GitHub Enterprise and GitHub Actions including reusable workflows matrix strategies branching models and release strategies such as GitFlow and trunk-based development along with security and compliance automation
  • Demonstrated proficiency in artificial intelligence concepts, with hands-on experience using AI tools to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiency. Proven ability to implement AI-powered solutions to solve business challenges. Demonstrates a growing awareness of AI risk management and a commitment to responsible and ethical AI use.
  • Strong leadership stakeholder communication and mentoring capability with a proactive mindset and demonstrated experience identifying issues early and driving preventative improvements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Engineering or equivalent practical experience
  • Professional certifications preferred including AWS Certified DevOps Engineer Professional AWS Certified Solutions Architect Certified Kubernetes Administrator or Certified Kubernetes Application Developer Terraform Associate and Azure DevOps Engineer Expert where applicable

Responsibilities

  • Lead DevOps and platform engineering initiatives to deliver secure scalable cloud infrastructure and automation that improves reliability and developer productivity through proactive engineering
  • Design and architect enterprise-grade Kubernetes clusters on Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service including advanced networking security controls and multi-tenancy
  • Lead serverless architecture initiatives using AWS Lambda Amazon API Gateway Amazon EventBridge and AWS Step Functions to build event-driven and scalable services
  • Define Infrastructure as Code standards and patterns using Terraform including module design state management and continuous integration and continuous delivery integration
  • Implement and operate GitOps workflows using Argo CD for declarative deployments multi-environment promotion and progressive delivery\
  • Design continuous integration and continuous delivery architectures using GitHub Actions including reusable workflows orchestration across repositories and matrix strategies
  • Establish and govern branching and release strategies including GitFlow trunk-based development and release flows to improve engineering practices across teams
  • Lead automation for testing security scanning compliance validation and deployments across multiple environments
  • Proactively monitor and analyse system performance identifying optimisation opportunities and potential failure points before they impact operations
  • Lead incident response and post-incident reviews driving root cause analysis corrective actions and preventative measures
  • Implement observability practices including monitoring logging and distributed tracing and define service level indicators and service level objectives to drive reliability engineering
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to DevOps and platform engineers guiding priorities standards and ways of working
  • Drive cloud infrastructure and DevOps toolchain strategy with engineering leadership aligning the platform roadmap to business objectives
  • Champion the responsible use of AI tools and AI-powered automation to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiency with attention to AI risk management and ethical use

About the Team

The DevOps team within the Data Estate organization builds and operates the cloud platforms tooling and automation that enable engineering teams to deliver software safely and efficiently. The team focuses on providing scalable and reliable cloud infrastructure standardized delivery pipelines and strong security and governance while partnering with engineering security and product stakeholders across regions to deliver measurable improvements in reliability and developer productivity through modern DevOps and responsible AI-enabled practices.
