Skills and Competencies
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in operational risk, enterprise risk, internal audit, compliance, or related control functions within a global, highly regulated environment
  • Demonstrated experience providing independent second line review and credible challenge across Risk and Control Self-Assessments, issue management, operational risk events, Key Risk Indicators, risk appetite, and governance reporting
  • Strong ability to assess control design and effectiveness, residual risk, root cause, remediation adequacy, closure evidence, and escalation needs
  • Proven experience engaging senior stakeholders and governance forums to communicate risk profile changes, emerging risks, control weaknesses, and required management actions
  • Experience supporting risk oversight of strategic initiatives, including technology change, process transformation, automation, AI/digital adoption, and third-party dependencies
  • Track record of building trusted cross-functional relationships while maintaining independence, objectivity, and effective challenge as a second line risk advisor
  • Demonstrated ability to challenge the quality, completeness, and accuracy of risk documentation, including issue descriptions, impact ratings, root cause analysis, remediation plans, closure evidence, and risk acceptance rationales
  • Demonstrated experience using governance, risk, and compliance platforms, risk reporting tools, dashboards, and Microsoft Office applications to support risk assessment, monitoring, and executive-level reporting
  • Ability to influence cross-functionally and enterprise-wide and assert second line risk responsibility to challenge and influence in a highly consultative and effective manner
  • Familiarity with regulatory expectations and supervisory standards applicable to highly regulated financial services, credit ratings, or similar control environments preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in artificial intelligence concepts, with hands-on experience using AI tools to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiency. Proven ability to implement AI-powered solutions to solve business challenges. Demonstrates a growing awareness of AI risk management and a commitment to responsible and ethical AI use
Education/Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required
  • Advanced degree or professional qualification in risk management, finance, business, technology, audit, compliance, or a related discipline preferred
  • Professional certification in operational risk, enterprise risk, internal audit, compliance, or information security preferred, such as CRISC, FRM, PRM, CIA, CPA, CISA, CISM, CISSP, or equivalent
Responsibilities
The VP, Risk Management serves as the dedicated second line risk officer supporting Ratings Operations, providing independent oversight, credible challenge, and advisory support across the operational risk management framework.
  • Provide independent review and credible challenge to the Ratings Operations risk profile and its implementation of the operational risk management framework, leveraging subject matter expertise across all risk domains
  • Actively engage at governance committees and forums representing second line risk, and deliver subsequent updates on changes to the Ratings Operations risk profile
  • Deliver independent oversight and credible challenge of risk appetite initiatives, including alignment with organizational goals, risk profile changes, documented rationales, and applicable regulatory expectations
  • Credibly challenge first line Risk and Control Self-Assessments for timely completion, risk identification, control effectiveness assessments, and escalation and reporting, including at governance committees
  • Review and challenge the identification, documentation, response, and reporting of issues and operational risk events, including post-event root cause analysis to identify lessons learned and actions to prevent recurrence
  • Provide independent review and credible challenge of Key Risk Indicator development, proposed tolerance levels, supporting rationale, and first line explanations where indicators are out of tolerance or have changed significantly
  • Monitor and challenge emerging and evolving risks, including those arising from AI, automation, technology transformation, data management, and other digital initiatives, and advise stakeholders on risk implications and appropriate governance escalation
  • Provide second line challenge and oversight of strategic and transformation initiatives from design through post-implementation, with particular focus on technology change, automation, AI adoption, and third-party dependencies
  • Act as a trusted risk advisor and respected point of contact for stakeholders across Ratings Operations and control functions, including Compliance, People, Enterprise Risk Management, and Internal Audit, while maintaining independence and objectivity
  • Support regulatory readiness by providing independent risk perspectives, escalating material risk themes through appropriate governance channels, and helping ensure documented risk positions are clear, complete, and supportable
  • Review and credibly challenge adherence by Ratings Operations to applicable policies, standards, procedures, and the operational risk management framework
  • Monitor and challenge first line use of the governance, risk, and compliance tool for accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and appropriate reporting
About the Team
The Moody's Ratings Risk Management Team serves as the second line of defense risk function across Moody's Ratings, setting risk policies and providing independent guidance, oversight, and challenge to ensure consistent implementation of and adherence to risk standards. Operating as a global risk management center of excellence within Moody's Ratings, the team partners closely with business units, first line support functions, and shared services to strengthen risk practices and promote accountability across the organization. As Moody's Ratings continues to evolve its risk landscape, including through the adoption of AI, automation, and digital transformation, the team plays a critical role in monitoring and challenging emerging risks and helping the business navigate change with confidence and rigor.

For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $163,300.00 - $236,800.00, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation. Moody’s also offers a competitive benefits package, including not but limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities, life, disability, and accident insurance, a discounted employee stock purchase plan, and tuition reimbursement.
