Skills and Competencies

• 9+ years of software engineering experience with Deep expertise in Python backend development, including AWS Lambda, API Gateway, FastAPI, or similar frameworks
• Proven experience designing and operating production-grade serverless architectures on AWS
• Strong hands-on knowledge of AWS Batch and AWS Step Functions for long-running, data-intensive job orchestration
• Experience defining cross-squad architecture standards, API design patterns, and data models
• Frontend experience with React and TypeScript sufficient to review designs and guide UI engineers
• Experience with infrastructure as code using AWS CDK and/or Terraform and Strong data awareness, with practical experience using RDS (PostgreSQL), S3, and data pipeline concepts
• Demonstrated ability to mentor Senior and Mid-level engineers and influence engineering culture at scale
• Demonstrated proficiency in artificial intelligence concepts, with hands-on experience using AI tools to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiency. Proven ability to implement AI
• powered solutions to solve business challenges. Demonstrates a growing awareness of AI risk management and a commitment to responsible and ethical AI use.
• Experience integrating LLM APIs, agentic workflows, or AI-native application patterns in production environments is a plus
• Familiarity with AWS Glue for ETL pipeline development and data engineering collaboration is a plus
• Background in financial services or other data-intensive, regulated enterprise environments is a plus

Education

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical anchor across multiple product squads, owning architectural direction, engineering standards, and overall platform quality for a serverless AWS-based Python ecosystem.
• Own and evolve the end-to-end technical architecture across multiple delivery squads
• Define, document, and enforce engineering standards for serverless Python development on AWS
• Design scalable AWS Batch and Step Functions orchestration patterns for long-running data pipeline workloads
• Lead cross-squad architecture decisions spanning APIs, data modelling, and cloud infrastructure
• Act as the technical escalation point for complex and high-impact engineering challenges
• Mentor and upskill Senior and Mid-level engineers, raising the overall technical bar across squads
• Partner closely with Data Engineering to define pipeline architecture and AWS Glue usage patterns
• Drive consistent infrastructure-as-code practices using AWS CDK or Terraform
• Champion a design-first engineering culture, emphasizing planning and architectural rigor before implementation
• Encourage and model effective use of AI tools for design exploration, prototyping, and delivery acceleration

About the Team

This role plays a critical leadership position within Moody’s Casualty and Financial Lines technology organization, helping drive large-scale modernization and cloud transformation initiatives. The team operates across multiple full-stack squads responsible for mission-critical, data-intensive platforms, with a strong focus on architectural rigor, resilience, security-by-design, and operational excellence. Working closely with Product, Platform, CloudOps, Security, and Data partners, the Staff Software Systems Engineer influences strategy, strengthens engineering practices, and enables teams to scale, innovate, and deliver with confidence in a regulated, enterprise environment.
