The Role / Responsibilities:
The MD Commercial Strategy is responsible for driving the development of our Insurance BU strategy, managing the assessment of business growth opportunities, executing on strategic growth initiatives, and coordinating with Insurance leadership as well as MA Strategy team.
As a leader in the Insurance Commercial Strategy management group, you and your team will oversee our portfolio of business initiatives, working closely with colleagues in product teams to integrate initiatives into a coherent global strategy, constructively challenging and supporting initiatives through objective, fact-based analysis, supporting our intent to make decisions in the best interests of Moody’s Analytics and our customers.
You will lead a team which acquires market feedback through relationships and primary and secondary research, and synthesizes this to generate plans for the business, and effectuates this strategy by integrating with portfolio priorities in collaboration with BU product and MA Strategy teams. By integrating the formulation of our strategy and directing execution of strategy, the MD Commercial Strategy will enable our leaders to drive focus across our teams.
Key functions:
- Market strategy development and execution
- Develop mid-term and long term Insurance BU vision, strategy and plan to drive the growth and success of the BU by analyzing, researching and developing market strategies that enable expansion of our market presence and offerings.
- Ensure that the BU targets the right customer sub-segments and workflows, and regions, by leveraging analytics where needed (such as addressable market and growth rates)
- Leverage subject matter experts to conduct in-depth market research and analysis on market trends, regulatory drivers, customer needs, and competitive landscape to identify new opportunities and inform strategic decision-making
- Collaborate with subject matter experts and product strategy team to ensure that solutions developed are aligned to market needs and opportunities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including commercial (GTM) enablement, sales, and marketing, to align market strategy initiatives and drive successful execution
- Ensure this gets translated into BU, product, and sales goals and communicated clearly at all levels in the organisation
- Investigate and pursue strategic investment opportunities, including organic investment and M&A, working with Corporate Development as needed.
- Lead BU Strategic Planning
- Oversee development of BU strategic plans, positively but credibly articulating the opportunities for growth to support appropriate investment.
- Provide BU Executive leadership team with transparency and visibility on resource allocation and financial metrics, supporting investment/deployment decisions
- Support strategic planning & decision making through key analysis and information, including industry research & customer analytics.
- Lead quarterly business review process
- Provide customer and market analytics for use of the BU
- Act as primary point of contact with MA Central Strategy, communicating development plans and cascading central requirements & processes to BU teams.
- Lead development of BU investment cases to BU executive management and BU Segment Board.
- Manage the BU portfolio
- Develop and execute decision processes that support effective, transparent decision-making and prioritisation across the BU, and by extension helping manage resources allocation across the business.
- Support resource allocation decisioning across portfolio based on portfolio roles and staging.
- Working with Sales and Product Management, identify, prioritise and segment market needs & segments
- Advocate for and steer initiatives as appropriate, critically evaluating initiatives on their fit with the business vision and merits. Where required, recommend the cessation of initiatives which no longer merit support, enabling cost-effective deployment.
- Support effective decision making in day to day business execution
- Recommend, help align and communicate business growth priorities across OU functions and sales and work with product management and regional heads to help translate into rigorous implementation yet maintaining high levels of agility.
- Provide clear deal prioritisation and decision making frameworks to help empower sales, product and regional leaders in building and executing on commercial targets and plans
- Bring disciplined and comprehensive approach to proposition development.
- Drive collaboration and team leadership
- Communicate proactively to ensure consistent understanding of our growth initiatives across our teams and MA, helping to ensure a coherent approach to industry engagement and internal dialogue.
- Managed and develop a high performing team of strategists and subject matter experts to align with business goals.

For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $231,400.00 - $335,500.00, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation.
