Skills and Competencies

Must-Haves:

• Good foundational knowledge of Machine Learning and Deep Learning
• Programming experience, ideally in Python
• Basic knowledge of bash
• Knowledge of AI and machine learning libraries such as Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and open-source/commercial graph databases
• A data storyteller or narrative finder
• Must be self-motivated; a self-starter or problem-solver.
• Must be a clear communicator.

Nice to Haves:

• Good understanding of Natural Language Processing (NLP)
• Experience working in remote linux environments
• Experience writing regression/integration tests
• Experience with Postman and using APIs
• Experience with Git or other version control system
• Programming experience in C++
• Knowledge of SQL

Education

• Pursuing a degree in STEM, in particular one of the following majors: Statistics or related fields, Mathematics, Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science

Responsibilities

The intern will be exposed to the different but necessary stages of data science that are needed to process real-time news for our customers.

• Contribute to enhancing news metadata through the design and implementation of ML/NLP models.
• Assist with the ingestion, processing, and normalization of large-scale news data.
• Dive deep into news content to uncover trends and valuable insights.
• Apply Named Entity Recognition and Linking techniques to news articles.
• Innovate in news classification by researching and developing new content categories.
• Develop automated solutions for summarizing and clustering news stories.
• Extract meaningful insights from analyzing large volumes of news data.
• Collaborate within an agile team environment, embracing continuous learning and fast iteration.
• Maintain and improve existing software while documenting enhancements and updates clearly.
