The Role:

Moody's Insurance Solutions - Geospatial team is looking for an energetic associate to join our dynamic, fast-paced team of experts. This role is pivotal in developing geospatial layers used in Exposure, Vulnerability, and Hazard development essential for building comprehensive Catastrophe models across various global geographies.
The ideal candidate should possess a keen eye for detail, a proactive and positive mindset, and an exemplary work ethic. Proficiency in geospatial methodologies is essential, along with a strong willingness and capability to stay abreast of and adopt emerging technologies in the field. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to critical modeling efforts that help in estimating the losses from natural as well as manmade disasters, working alongside seasoned professionals in a collaborative and innovative environment.

Key Accountabilities & Deliverables:

  • Able to implement required designed procedures (classification, segmentation, etc.) and develop baseline geospatial data products related to Remote Sensing and GIS projects in consultation with project leads and teams in different development offices at Moody’s (US, UK, India).
  • Participate in projects requiring Remote Sensing & GIS support.
  • Research, collect, analyze and consolidate available datasets required to develop spatial layers including Land Use and Land Cover - LULC, building footprints, industrial facility polygons, road networks etc.
  • Good hands on in modifying and executing Python or equivalent programming scripts for the analysis and creation of spatial layers.
  • Compilation of metadata and other documentation
  • Interpretation of building stock attributes (occupancy, number of floors etc.) using photo interpretation techniques and diversified internet resources
  • Create maps and graphs for presentations or reports

Required Technical Skills and Educational Background

  • Pursuing post-graduation (Masters) in Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing, Earth Sciences or Graduate with one year of experience in Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Environmental Science from an institute of good repute
  • Strong concepts in Geospatial science including spatial queries and analysis, digitization, projection, georeferencing, overlay analysis etc.
  • Good understanding in remote sensing technology including classification, segmentation, change detection, decorrelation algorithms for identifying the classes/objects in multi - spectral satellite/ aerial images.
  • Knowledge of Python programming skills and hands on exposure to Geospatial Libraries including GDAL, Geopandas, Shapely, Fiona, PyProj and RasterIO
  • Knowledge of ESRI GIS software products and hands on exposure to open- source platform such as QGIS, GRASS etc.
  • Good to have basic image processing and machine learning skills
  • Familiarity with Google Earth Engine would be a plus.

From regional based earthquake and hurricane models to terrorism risk models, the industry, and our 400+ clients recognize Moody’s Insurance Solutions as the largest developer of catastrophe models in the risk market. Moody’s Insurance Solutions continues to drive industry innovation with the enhancement and expansion of our leading models. The Geospatial team of Model Development group is responsible for developing various geospatial layers/ products/ models required for catastrophe models.
