Junior Staff Accountant - Mexico City - 9139BR

The Staff Accountant position is part of the Mexican Accounting team. The Staff Accountant will be responsible to prepare and submit on a monthly basis Electronic Accounting filings as per Mexican tax requirements. Additionally, Staff Accountant will be also involved in some accounting areas (i.e. general ledger, accounts payable, billing, taxes, treasury and audit).

The individual will have a good knowledge of Electronic Accounting, Mexican GAAP/IFRS, as well as basics of USGAAP, having worked with ERP applications as well as with local software, being updated on fiscal regulations, and fluent in Spanish and English.

Responsibilities
  • Generate monthly files for Electronic Accounting compliance, such as Chart of accounts mapping and Trial balance.
  • Prepare general accounting information related to Journal Entries as per local Electronic accounting requirements.
  • Generate monthly layouts from ERP and upload files into local software
  • Validate suppliers vouchers in order to ensure they are in accordance with Tax requirements
  • Follow up with suppliers when invoices are not in accordance with Tax requirements.
  • Reconcile accounting information (Peoplesoft vs local software)
  • Keep and update database related to bank info for customers and suppliers.
  • Perform a catch up of Electronic Accounting information from previous months.
  • Lead monthly meetings with management to review the status of Electronic Accounting filing.
  • Execute, with limited assistance, the daily procedures for their accounting areas or entities, including communications with the different lines of business, reviewing daily transactions, identifying accounting changes, coordinating with other accounting teams, and ensuring timeliness of deliverables.
  • Prepare and submit customer invoices according to local Mexican regulation.
  • Liaises with various departments to obtain accounting transaction support.
  • Ensures accounting transactions are recorded to the proper chart of accounts (i.e. legal entities, accounts, departments, currencies, etc).
  • Assists in the identification, research and resolution of operational issues through regular and special analysis to ensure proper accounting.
  • Prepares additional account analysis for Internal Audits, External Audits, and ad-hoc requests.
  • Prepares/reviews reports for external statutory and regulatory reporting.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications.
  • Understands US & local GAAP, internal control policies and Moody’s Global Accounting Policies (MGAP) with respect to their procedures.
  • Additional duties/projects as assigned by your manager.

The Staff Accountant will need to have a perspective of the team’s strategy, goals and objectives.

  • Bachelor degree required. Preferably in accounting, finance or other business discipline.
  • 2 to 3 years’ experience performing in an accounting environment. (Preferably in a large multi-national company or in a major CPA firm)
  • Fluent in Spanish and English (verbal and written).
  • Background demonstrating the ability to deliver a high quality product and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines while providing final products with high quality standards.
  • Be able to handle new projects and be adaptable to new challenges.
  • Experience working with Mexican software (Aspel)
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel is a must.
  • PeopleSoft experience is highly desirable.
  • Proactive to keep updated in Accounting fields.
