Job Description

This posting is for a position within Risk and Finance Solutions (RFS), a business vertical of ERS. The successful candidate will work alongside other consultants under the guidance of Engagement Managers to solve regulatory and business challenges faced by today’s financial institutions. Generally, engagements involve the development, customization, and implementation of credit portfolio and risk measurement solutions. Analysts will gain first-hand experience applying their skills to solve our clients’ real-world problems, and to help interpret the results in a business context. Ideal candidates for this role will be able to conduct research projects with limited oversight, have excellent organizational skills, be detail oriented, and possess strong quantitative abilities. Representative engagements include economic capital analysis, credit stress testing, capital planning, ALM modeling, PD/LGD/EAD modeling, etc.

This position is a client-facing role, focused on creating solutions for clients’ business needs relative to the development, customization, and implementation of risk management solutions. During a typical advisory engagement, you will begin by working with the client and the Engagement Manager to precisely understand the issue or challenge at hand. You will then assist the Engagement Manager in the development of a plan to solve the challenge or address the issue.

Specific duties include:

• Lead project streams. Take ownership for specific deliverables associated with client engagements. Provide direction to Risk Advisory Associates in developing models, documentation, and presentations.

• Create confidence with clients. Demonstrate subject matter expertise and a commitment to excellence to all current and prospective clients.

• Ensure that assigned deliverables are provided to clients on time and on budget.

• Demonstrate thought leadership. Show initiative and creativity in designing solutions for unique client challenges.
This position will be based in our San Francisco or New York offices. Travel requirements are generally around 20%, but the actual frequency may vary depending on client needs.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience with a bank, asset manager, insurer, management consultancy, financial software firm, audit firm, or national financial regulator.
  • Track record of successful project management, preferably within a banking or capital markets environment.
  • Experience leading meetings, presentations and/or workshops.
  • Understanding of debt instruments, portfolio-level risk, commercial lending, underwriting processes, loss allowance processes, securities pricing, and/or capital allocation.
  • Experience with bank regulations and accounting standards, such as CCAR/DFAST, CECL, Basel II & III, model risk management guidance, etc.
  • Minimum master's degree or equivalent from an internationally recognized institution. CPA, CFA, PRM, or FRM designations are a plus.
  • International experience a plus.
Skills/Knowledge Required:
  • Track record of working well in team environments and contributing innovative ideas.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate complex concepts.
  • Strong, proven analytical skills with ability to coach/guide less experienced analysts.
  • Strong client orientation with commitment to client satisfaction.
  • Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint; knowledge of Microsoft Project a plus.
  • Knowledge of Moody’s RiskCalc, CMM, RiskFrontier, ImpairmentStudio, and/or CreditLens a plus.
  • Experience successfully designing and applying basic statistical tests (e.g., regression analysis, time series analysis, t-tests, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of common statistical software packages (e.g., R, WPS, etc.) a plus.
  • Understanding of the organizational structure and business model of commercial banks. Similar understanding of investment banks a major plus.
  • Strong evidence of being self-disciplined, highly organized, able to multi-task, and attentive to detail.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 20-30% of the time.
  • Minimum fluency in English. Any other language proficiencies are helpful.
