Moody's Corporation ("MCO"), a leading provider of credit rating services, and financial software and information to assess credit risk, is seeking an Assistant General Counsel – Employment, EMEA.


Job Description

  • Serve as a key legal advisor on EMEA employment law related matters, including strategic Human Resources initiatives, employee relations, benefits, compensation, recruitment and diversity and inclusion matters;
  • Leverage prior law firm and (preferably) in-house experience to assist on acquisitions, on integrating newly-acquired companies (with a significant continental European footprint), and on ensuring their employment law compliance;
  • Ensure internal best practices on managing employee relations, litigation and compliance matters, oversee the work of outside counsel on employment litigation cases outside the UK. Experience advising on internal investigations preferred;
  • Update Human Resources policies and procedures and related materials to remain current with the state of the law;
  • Draft employment contracts and other employment related documents;
  • Partner with Human Resources to address workforce representation related issues, including national labour unions and representative bodies.


  • Ideally the candidate will be qualified and/or have extensive experience counselling on employment law matters in France, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium and the UK;
  • Must be fluent in English. Fluency in French and/or German ideal;
  • In-house experience preferred;
  • Must have eight or more years of post-qualification experience;
  • The position requires the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as excellent negotiation skills and the ability to work well with senior and executive managers;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills which facilitate prompt and constructive solutions as well as pragmatic thinking;
  • Proven ability to manage outside counsel on complex matters, including all forms of employment litigation in various European jurisdictions;
  • Significant hands-on experience managing matters in employment litigation, and federal and state proceedings and audits;
  • A practical, business-based approach to problem solving; and
  • Some travel within Europe may be required.
