The Ratings & Research Support department is responsible for producing analytical inputs in support of Moody’s Ratings and Research function. In addition, this department will provide support for surveillance requirements and partner with R&R to provide the necessary support for issuer and investor interactions.

The Role/
The AVP role will directly manage a team of associates and senior associates dedicated to provide Ratings & Research Support (RRS)/ Ratings and Research (R&R) teams globally with the required analytical information and analysis. The manager will coordinate and direct associate workload as well as ensure the analytical work produced is of appropriate quality, and enhanced by applying the appropriate judgment and experience. In addition, the AVP will support RRS management to attract, hire, develop, motivate and retain talented junior analytical staff.
The AVP role is an internally facing role providing incumbents with management experience, extensive interaction with analyst and managers in RRS/ R&R and the opportunity to shape RRS and the broader RRS/R&R relationship.

Responsibilities:
The candidate will be responsible for providing quantitative and analytical support to Ratings & Research Support/ Ratings & Research, specifically to the Financial Institutions Group by
  • Management of analytical work quality and consistency for assigned workflows produced by associates. Provide analytical oversight to associates including; Review of quantitative assessment of financial statements and economic/market data, Review output produced on specific issuers, general credit trends, or sector related issues
  • Implement appropriate QA on the associate analytical work.
  • Ensure high quality analytical work in accordance with agreed parameters/Service Level Agreements; strong collaboration with onshore teams is expected to enhance the quality and timeliness of the analysis.
  • Providing domain expertise on fundamental analysis as well as identifying and driving process improvements, scoping and transitioning new work flows
  • Manage associates’ portfolio/workflow allocation; review responsibilities periodically and suggest potential changes to next level manager; coordinate work demands from various stakeholders:
    • Assign associates to discrete work items and ad hoc tasks to associates as appropriate.
    • Liaising with R&R and RRS onshore analysts/various stakeholders who are relying on RRS-MSC for high quality support
  • People management responsibilities of associates include:
    • Participate in recruitment, selection and onboarding activities for “class” and ad hoc hiring.
    • Manage performance evaluation process of associates; provide ongoing coaching and feedback to associates as appropriate.
    • Identify and monitor high performing associates and provide input into the promotion process.
    • Drive stronger performance management culture by identifying and proactively managing underperformance.
    • Mentor and develop staff, including facilitation of career development planning and opportunities; Encourage employees to take responsibility for their career goals.
    • Identify and assign relevant training to support associate development (e.g., methodology, asset class training).
    • Proactively seek opportunities to enhance existing process efficiencies.
    • Ensure culture of compliance exists in the team

Qualifications

Required

  • MBA degree (Finance) or M.S in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Mathematics; with 7+ years of fixed income and credit analysis or research experience. Knowledge or experience with analysis of banks, financial companies and/ or insurance companies. Familiarity with key banking and/ or sovereign/ economic rating drivers will be a plus.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Strong financial modelling, analytical, written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience/desire to manage, train and mentor junior support associates
  • Capable of achieving high level of credibility with analysts and broader MIS functions. Service-orientation, to ensure RRS/ R&R teams receive strong, timely support and are working effectively as a team
  • Highly motivated and enterprising.
  • Organized in carrying out responsibilities, possessing strong time management skills and a high level of focus. Ability to multi-task and reprioritize as business priorities change.
  • Good written, oral, and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with Moody’s rating process and services; analyst workflow; compliance policies and procedures; rating business regulatory requirements
