The Role / Responsibilities:

Reporting

  • Preparation of quarterly and annual calculations of current and deferred tax provisions for EMEA under US GAAP for management reporting and for inclusion in the published consolidated Financial Statements of MCO
  • Ensure tax provisions and prior year adjustments are prepared timely and booked accurately
  • Assist with the preparation of the projected ETR
  • Reconciliation of statutory to management reported tax for GAAP adjustments.
  • Review (in some instances prepare) of statutory tax notes across EMEA
  • Manage quarterly/year end support files for external auditors
  • Ensure SOX processes are followed and prepare SOX memos where required

Corporate tax compliance

  • Manage/review of CIT returns for the EMEA region. Where outsourcing is in place, working closely with the accounting team to ensure all relevant information is provided timely
  • Ensure corporate tax filings and estimated corporate tax payments on account are complete, accurate and timely filed
  • Assist with gathering information during internal and external tax audits
  • Manage the relationship with external advisers ensuring smooth provision of services and cooperation is in place

Indirect Taxation/Other

  • Integrations of newly acquired entities (incl. compliance and system)
  • Assist with providing transfer pricing information and conduct full review of TP studies prepared by external adviser for multiple entities in the EMEA region.
  • Support with Tax Governance and Risk Frameworks upkeep, incl. SAO, CCO
  • Involvement in projects (incl. internal reorganizations, due diligence during external acquisitions and ad-hoc)
  • Deal with day-to-day VAT and withholding tax queries from the business
  • Monitor tax legislative changes across EMEA that may impact the business
  • Review of VAT returns and EC Sales list across EMEA
  • Ensure all VAT filings (including payments) are completed timely
  • Preparation/Review of PAYE Settlement Agreements for companies in the UK group

Qualifications:

  • CTA , ACA or ACCA qualified
  • Significant tax experience (over 10 years); specifically related to corporate tax and VAT (preferably in a large multi-national company or in a major accounting firm).
  • Both US GAAP and IFRS tax accounting experience preferred
  • Exposure to transfer pricing issues preferred
  • Very good technical knowledge of UK corporation tax and a good understanding of international tax issues (EMEA)
  • European tax compliance experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and of a major financial system, experience with SAP preferable
  • Competent written and verbal communication skills; ability to clearly set expectations and communicate results
  • Strong organizational skills, analytical skills, attention to detail and proactive approach
  • Collaborative yet assertive: working well within a team, fostering collaboration with multiple business stakeholders, while setting clear boundaries around tax department responsibilities
  • Other European language is a bonus
